CENTCOM: We Sent Seized Weapons from the IRGC to Ukraine

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on the 'X' network that it has transferred a large quantity of weapons and ammunition seized from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to the Ukrainian armed forces. CENTCOM stated that these weapons include over 5,000 Kalashnikov rifles, machine guns, sniper rifles, RPG-7s, and more than 500,000 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, which will help Ukraine defend itself against the Russian invasion. In the statement, CENTCOM noted that control of this ammunition was handed over to the government following a seizure order against the IRGC issued by the U.S. Department of Justice in December 2023. According to the statement, this ammunition was discovered and seized by CENTCOM and the naval forces of its partners from four stateless vessels between June and late February 2024. This ammunition was being transferred from the IRGC to the Houthis in Yemen in violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2216. CENTCOM emphasized that it will continue to work with its allies and partners to counter the flow of 'lethal aid' from the Islamic Republic in the region, utilizing all legal tools, including U.S. and UN sanctions. According to CENTCOM, Iran's support for armed groups threatens international and regional security, U.S. forces, diplomatic personnel, and American citizens in the region, and it has stated that it will take any action necessary to stop the destabilizing activities of the Islamic Republic.
