Chairman of the National Security Commission: Ahmadreza Jalali was involved in the assassination of nuclear scientists

Aladdin Boroujerdi, the Chairman of the National Security Commission in the Parliament, who is in Brussels, accused Ahmadreza Jalali, a physician imprisoned in Iran, of involvement in the assassination of nuclear scientists during a press conference on Tuesday, January 23. According to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty from the European Parliament in Brussels, Boroujerdi, who is leading a parliamentary delegation to this country, also accused Jalali of 'issuing information about Iran's nuclear facilities.' Ahmadreza Jalali, who, according to the Tehran prosecutor's office, holds a 'PhD in disaster management' and 'a degree in nuclear medicine,' was arrested in May 2016 when he traveled to Iran at the invitation of the University of Tehran. He was sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court for 'espionage and selling information to Israel,' and the Iranian Supreme Court has confirmed this sentence. This ruling has faced widespread protests from human rights organizations and experts at the United Nations. Jalali has denied all accusations against him and also refuted claims made by the Ministry of Intelligence in a documentary film in a voice recording last December. Nevertheless, some officials of the Islamic Republic, including judiciary officials, continue to insist that he has 'spied' against Iran for foreign countries, including Israel. For instance, in early December, the Tehran Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office reiterated its claims about Jalali's 'espionage' and 'eight meetings' with Mossad agents, stating that it had recently met with this accused. Boroujerdi reiterated these accusations in the European Parliament on Tuesday, stating that Jalali's arrest and conviction are not related to his dual nationality. He stated that dual nationality 'should not be confused with espionage.' He continued, 'Jalali had issued information about Iran's nuclear facilities' and 'his actions led to the assassination of two nuclear scientists.' These statements by the parliament representative had previously been reiterated by the Tehran prosecutor's office. According to the Tehran prosecutor's statements, 'This prisoner has provided information related to the projects of the Ministry of Defense, the Atomic Energy Organization, the names and information of several managers of the Atomic Energy Organization and the Ministry of Defense to Mossad officers.' Abbas Jafari Dolatabadi also stated that Ahmadreza Jalali 'provided information regarding nuclear energy sites, names of senior managers of the Atomic Energy Organization, the Ministry of Defense, affiliated organizations, and their plans and programs, as well as maps and building plans to Mossad agents.' In this context, the Tehran prosecutor reiterated its claims regarding Ahmadreza Jalali's 'espionage' allegations.
