China Urges Its Citizens to Leave Lebanon: The Situation is 'Complex'

The Chinese embassy in Beirut, referring to the 'complex security situation' in Lebanon, especially in the south of the country, has urged Chinese citizens to take the opportunity and leave Lebanon as soon as possible 'while commercial flights are still operating.' Germany also requested its citizens on Wednesday, August 8, to leave the country quickly, disregarding rumors about potential evacuation operations from Lebanon that have given German citizens a false sense of security. A spokesperson for the German Foreign Ministry stated that now is the time to leave Lebanon and urged German citizens to plan their exit, even if it means traveling through Turkey or incurring heavy costs for flights. Meanwhile, as tensions in the Middle East escalate, Japan's Foreign Ministry also urged its citizens on Tuesday, August 7, to refrain from traveling to Israel. The ministry had previously asked Japanese citizens in Lebanon to leave the country. Earlier, the United States and the United Kingdom had also advised their citizens to leave Lebanon immediately on Saturday, August 5. The U.S. embassy in Beirut, noting the cancellation of many international flights to and from Lebanon, recommended that American citizens wishing to leave Lebanon purchase any available ticket 'even if that flight does not depart immediately or is not their preferred route.' The U.S. embassy also advised American citizens who do not plan to leave Lebanon to prepare for emergencies and to be ready to shelter for an extended period. The U.S. embassy in Jerusalem also warned American citizens in Israel on Friday, August 4, that the security situation in the region is complex and could change rapidly. The embassy urged U.S. citizens to plan their exit from Israel as soon as possible, considering the potential for increased regional tensions and the cancellation of flights in and out of Israel. The Israeli army attacked Hezbollah positions in 10 areas in southern Lebanon. Hamas and Islamic Jihad held Israel responsible for the failure of ceasefire negotiations in Gaza. Israeli military operations in Lebanon resulted in the death of Khalil al-Maqdah, a commander of the military wing of Fatah. Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon left three dead; Hezbollah responded with rocket and drone fire.
