China's Protest Against Trump's Remarks on Denuclearization of North Korea

China criticized Donald Trump's statements that blamed the country for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, calling them 'irresponsible.' On Friday, Mr. Trump canceled Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's trip to North Korea and, in his tweets, accused China of not aiding in the denuclearization due to Washington's tough stance on tariffs. This prompted a response from the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, who described Trump's comments as contrary to reality and emphasized that China takes the denuclearization issue very seriously. After his historic meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, Donald Trump stated that Pyongyang was no longer considered a nuclear threat. However, numerous reports since then have indicated that North Korea has not taken steps to dismantle its facilities. In his tweets on Friday, Trump expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of North Korea's denuclearization process, noting that no significant progress had been made. Recently, The Washington Post reported, citing a U.S. official, that North Korea appears to be building a new intercontinental missile. The International Atomic Energy Agency also stated that North Korea continues to advance its nuclear programs. Meanwhile, the U.S.-China trade war has complicated the situation, with Trump accusing Beijing of wanting to take revenge for this economic dispute on the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. The U.S. government has imposed $50 billion in tariffs on Chinese goods to achieve better trade conditions and reduce its trade deficit with Beijing, which has also taken reciprocal action. China is considered North Korea's only ally in the region.
