Christopher Lee, the Dracula of Cinema, Passes Away

Christopher Lee, the veteran British actor, passed away at the age of 93 in London due to respiratory issues and heart disease. He died on Sunday, June 7, in a hospital in London, and the news was announced to the media on Thursday, June 11, at the request of his wife to inform other family members. Over his 8-decade artistic career, Lee appeared in more than 250 film and television projects, making him one of the record holders in this field. In addition to acting, he also worked in heavy metal music, releasing several singles and albums. Lee was primarily known for his role as Dracula in several iconic vampire films, including 'Dracula' (1958), 'Dracula: Prince of Darkness' (1966), 'Dracula: Rise from the Grave' (1968), 'The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires' (1970), 'Dracula A.D. 1972' (1972), and 'The Satanic Rites of Dracula' (1973). He also played the role of Saruman in Peter Jackson's 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy, which brought him back into the public eye after many years. Despite his prolific career, Lee was never nominated for an Oscar or a Golden Globe, although he received an honorary BAFTA award in 2011. Born on May 27, 1922, in London, his father was Colonel Geoffrey Trollope Lee, a member of the Royal Fusiliers, and his mother was Countess Estelle Marie Carandini. After graduating from school, Lee worked as a messenger in London and served in the Royal Air Force during World War II, where he earned a medal for his service and was promoted to the rank of lieutenant. After the war, he entered cinema and television in 1947, making his film debut in 'Corridor of Mirrors' in 1948 for Terence Young. Throughout his acting career, he appeared in films such as 'The Man with the Golden Gun' from the James Bond series, three installments of the 'Star Wars' saga, two parts of 'The Hobbit', and works like 'Hugo' by Martin Scorsese, 'Alice in Wonderland', 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', and 'Sleepy Hollow' by Tim Burton. In 1978, he appeared in a film titled 'Caravans' directed by James Fargo, which also featured Behrouz Vossoughi and Mohammad Ali Keshavarz. This film, a co-production between Iran and the United States, was a copy of 'Lawrence of Arabia', in which Anthony Quinn also acted.
