Clashes Between the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and Kurdish Opposition Parties Near Oshnavieh

Reports indicate that in clashes between the forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and members of Kurdish opposition parties near Oshnavieh in West Azerbaijan province, at least one person was killed and another injured. Following a statement from the public relations office of the Hamzeh base of the IRGC regarding the occurrence of this clash, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network also published more details on Thursday, July 21. According to this human rights organization, after the IRGC forces surrounded the village of 'Tazhandareh' in Oshnavieh County and engaged in a confrontation with a group of opposition Kurdish forces, at least one person was killed and another was injured. According to the report, the IRGC forces have detained the injured individual. The identities of these two individuals and the names of the Kurdish opposition parties they were affiliated with have not been mentioned. The public relations office of the Hamzeh base of the IRGC claimed in a statement on Tuesday, July 19, that during clashes with a group that 'intended to enter Iranian territory' from the northwestern borders, several individuals were killed and injured, and their equipment was seized. According to the Kurdistan Human Rights Network, the IRGC military forces were equipped with light and semi-heavy weapons, including RPGs. There have also been attacks by the IRGC on Kurdish regions in Iran and border areas with the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Iranian officials have declared these areas as bases for opposition groups against the Iranian government and accuse the Kurdish opposition parties of separatism and creating insecurity in the country.
