Clashes in Pakistan's Balochistan; 24 Militants Killed

The 'Baloch Liberation Army,' the most prominent of several separatist groups in Balochistan, claimed responsibility for the attack. This group aims to achieve independence for the mineral-rich mountainous region of Balochistan. The militant groups that Islamabad claims to have attacked have been fighting against the Pakistani government for decades, targeting various entities in Balochistan, including Chinese citizens. Balochistan is the largest province in Pakistan by area but is the smallest in terms of population and has witnessed armed conflicts for years. Balochistan shares a northern border with Afghanistan and a western border with Iran, and has a long coastline along the Arabian Sea. The largest natural gas field in Pakistan is located in this region, and it is believed to have more undiscovered reserves. It also has rich metal resources, including gold, which production has increased in recent years. Balochistan is a key location in the multi-billion-dollar China-Pakistan corridor, which is part of Beijing's larger Belt and Road infrastructure initiative in the region.
