Clinton: The U.S. Will Take Military Action If Iran Attempts to Build a Nuclear Bomb

Hillary Clinton, the leading Democratic candidate for the U.S. presidential election, stated in a speech on Thursday regarding her foreign policy that the U.S. would take military action against Iran if necessary to prevent the country from acquiring nuclear weapons. According to CNN, Clinton compared her experience with that of Donald Trump, the potential Republican candidate, in the international arena, citing the issue of the Iran nuclear deal as an example. The former U.S. Secretary of State noted that in most cases, 'diplomacy' is the only way to prevent war, stating that when Barack Obama took office, Iran was rapidly moving towards acquiring nuclear weapons. Some called for military action against Iran to counter this situation. However, military action could have led to a larger war and engaged our forces in another battle. Clinton added that President Obama took a different approach. She led efforts to impose crippling global sanctions against Iran, bringing the country to the negotiating table. They negotiated and ultimately reached an agreement that closed all pathways for Iran to acquire nuclear weapons. Iran and six world powers reached an agreement last year to resolve the nuclear dispute, with Iran agreeing to halt parts of its nuclear activities in exchange for the international community lifting nuclear sanctions against it. Clinton continued by stating that the nuclear agreement must now be implemented decisively. As I have said many times, our approach to Iran must be 'distrust and verify.' The world must know that the U.S. will decisively act to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons, including through military action if necessary. She also emphasized that there is no doubt that the world and the U.S. are more secure than before this nuclear agreement. We achieved this goal without firing a single shot, dropping a single bomb, or endangering American soldiers. The leading Democratic candidate added that Donald Trump claims this agreement should not have happened and that we should have abandoned these negotiations. However, this would have meant the end of international sanctions, and Iran would have resumed its nuclear activities, with the world accusing us of undermining these negotiations. So what would have happened next? War? Would we have hoped for other countries to deal with Iran? While Hillary Clinton criticized Donald Trump, he also criticized the Obama administration in his first foreign policy speech last month, stating that Washington's weak approach towards Tehran has allowed Iran to become a major power in the Middle East. He said our friends cannot rely on us, and we have a president who bows first to our enemies. He pointed out that his administration would not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons, asserting that Obama was not a friend of Israel and treated Iran with love, care, and concern, which allowed Iran to become a major power in the Middle East. The U.S. presidential election is scheduled for November 8.
