Clinton's Campaign Contributions in September Set 'Record'

The Democratic candidate for the U.S. presidential election stated on October 1 that her campaign raised $154 million in September, surpassing the amount collected in previous months. In August (one month prior to September), Hillary Clinton's campaign had raised $143 million. Her Republican rival, Donald Trump, raised $90 million during the same period. It is noted that donations to campaigns are divided between the candidates and their parties. According to Hillary Clinton's campaign, over 900,000 individuals contributed financially in September, bringing the total number of donors since Clinton entered the race to 2.6 million. Donald Trump's campaign has not yet disclosed the amount raised by supporters in September. A look at past statistics and elections shows that financial contributions to campaigns typically increase as the voting date approaches. On the other hand, it appears that the overall spending of Clinton's campaign is significantly higher than that of Trump's campaign. A month and a half ago, Clinton's campaign reported spending $38 million while Trump's campaign reported spending over $18 million. At that time, it was stated that the Republican candidate's campaign spending was significantly lower than the usual trend in previous election cycles. Donald Trump stated in early September that he would spend nearly $60 million of his own assets on his campaign. Clinton's campaign also noted this and the support from 'right-wing billionaires,' stating, 'We need to do more to mobilize millions of voters across the country.' Every American citizen can contribute up to $2,700 to a campaign during a general election; contributions exceeding this amount must be donated to committees other than those related to the candidates. The U.S. presidential election will be held on November 8, and the 45th president will take office in January 2017.
