CNN: Emergency Landing of Two Air France Planes from U.S. Departures

CNN has reported that two Air France planes, which were flying from U.S. departures, were forced to make emergency landings in the United States and Canada due to a "bomb threat." Both planes landed safely without any damage. According to CNN, Flight 65 of Air France from Los Angeles to Paris was forced to land in Salt Lake City. The network cited a U.S. government official who mentioned the bomb threat, although it is unclear if anyone has been arrested in connection with this. It is also not clear whether the threat is related to any specific passenger or passengers on the plane. An FBI special agent stated that a group of law enforcement officials is investigating the matter. Shortly after this plane landed, Flight 55 from Washington to Paris was also forced to make an emergency landing in Halifax, eastern Canada, for the same reason of a "bomb threat." The U.S. Aerospace Command reported that none of its fighter jets were involved in escorting the two planes during these recent incidents. This report of new terrorist threats comes amid concerns following the deadly attacks in Paris. Additionally, Russia has confirmed that the reason for the crash of its Metrojet passenger plane in Egypt was a bombing. The Islamic State and a branch of this group have claimed responsibility for the Paris attacks and the plane explosion. The emergency landings of these two planes occurred just hours after a football match between Germany and the Netherlands was canceled due to a bomb threat. Previously, a friendly match between Belgium and Spain had also been canceled for security reasons. The head of the CIA stated on November 16 that the threat of attacks from the Islamic State group will not be limited to Paris. He warned about the ongoing threats posed by such attacks.
