Committee Following Up on Detainees Reports Execution of Exile Sentences for Dr. Ghareh Hassanlou and Other Defendants in the 'Rouhollah Ajamian' Case

The Committee Following Up on Detainees announced on Tuesday that the exile sentences for prisoners related to the Rouhollah Ajamian case have been executed. According to the court ruling in this case, Dr. Hamid Ghareh Hassanlou has been sentenced to 15 years in Yazd prison, Farzaneh Ghareh Hassanlou to five years, Mohammad Amin Akhlaghi and Amin Mahdi Shakarlahi to five years in Mashhad prison, Hossein Mohammadi, Mahdi Mohammadi, and Reza Arya to ten years in Kerman prison, and Ali Moazami Goudarzi to three years in Qom prison. As stated by Fazeli Heirakandi, the Chief Justice of Alborz, the reason for issuing the 'exile imprisonment' sentences was that the charge of 'premeditated murder' was not determined, but rather 'corruption on earth' and 'waging war against God' were identified. This judicial official attributed the charge of 'corruption on earth' to Article 286 of the Islamic Penal Code, due to the commission of 'multiple crimes' including 'crimes' against national security, disruption of public order, participation in illegal gatherings, blocking highways and preventing passage, 'attacking officials' while performing their duties, destruction of public and private property, conspiracy to commit 'crimes against national security' and 'crimes against the physical integrity of individuals' that caused 'severe disruption' in public order and insecurity in the country, leading to the death of an 'unarmed Basij member.' Rouhollah Ajamian was present during nationwide protests and was killed on November 3, 2022, during the fortieth-day memorial gathering for Hadith Najafi. The exiled individuals in this case are accused of involvement in Ajamian's killing. Initially, there were 16 defendants in this case, and following the issuance of initial sentences in the same branch and their confirmation in the Supreme Court, Mohammad Hosseini and Mohammad Mahdi Karami were executed by the judiciary, but the cases of the remaining defendants were 'returned to the same branch for further investigation and re-sentencing.'
