Committee Supporting Fariba Adelkhah Calls for Her Return to France

The Committee supporting Fariba Adelkhah and Roland Marchal called for the possibility of Ms. Adelkhah's return to France on Monday, June 5, marking the fourth anniversary of their detention in Tehran. The statement noted that Fariba Adelkhah's legal rights have not been recognized despite her release from prison, and her identification documents have not been returned to her. Fariba Adelkhah, a French-Iranian anthropologist working at Sciences Po, and Roland Marchal, a French citizen, were arrested four years ago at Tehran Airport on charges such as 'colluding to commit acts against national security.' Roland Marchal was released about nine months ago and returned to France. Fariba Adelkhah was released from prison in February of this year but has since been unable to leave Iran. In recent weeks, five European citizens, including two French citizens named Benjamin Briere and Bernard Filan, were released from Iranian prisons and returned to their countries. However, a French couple named Cecile Kohler and Jacques Paris, union activists, along with citizens from other Western countries such as the United States, Sweden, and Germany, remain imprisoned in the Islamic Republic. Western countries have labeled the detention and imprisonment of their citizens by the Islamic Republic as 'political hostage-taking' and have repeatedly called on the Islamic Republic to end this 'cruel' practice.
