Concern Expressed by Abolfazl Ghadyani's Wife Regarding His Health in Prison

The wife of Abolfazl Ghadyani, a 79-year-old political prisoner, has expressed concern about his "physical health" in prison, citing multiple heart, muscular, and vision ailments. Zahra Rahimi stated in an interview with the newspaper Shargh that Ghadyani, who has "heart disease and six springs in his heart arteries," "immune deficiency issues," and "imbalance," requires eye surgery and a recovery period at home. Rahimi questioned how he is "now imprisoned at the age of 79," referring to the issuance of "more than five letters of non-tolerance for punishment" by Ghadyani's doctors from 2010 to 2012. This family member of political prisoners emphasized Ghadyani's need for continuous check-ups by a cardiologist and the unsuitable conditions in prison for his care, expressing concern for the "physical health" of this political prisoner. Mehdi Mahmoudian, a human rights activist and former political prisoner, compared Ghadyani's continued imprisonment despite his multiple illnesses to the "freedom" of Mohammad Reza Rahimi, an accused economic corruptor, writing: "In this government, thieves and bribe-takers like Rahimi are free, while honorable individuals like Ghadyani are in prison." Abolfazl Ghadyani, a political activist imprisoned in Evin Prison, has continued his sharp and explicit criticisms against Ali Khamenei during his imprisonment. Recently, in a letter published by the website Kaleme, he reacted to Khamenei's recent remarks, stating: "Khamenei's desperation in the face of foreign powers is clearly evident from his recent statements." Ghadyani, an opposition political activist against the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, has been imprisoned multiple times due to his comments, with his last arrest occurring on May 9. Some political activists have described this action as a "harsh revenge" by the Islamic Republic against internal critics following the death of Hassan Nasrallah. In recent months, Ghadyani has deemed the boycott of the government "elections" to succeed Ebrahim Raisi as an "effective action in protest against the ruling system" and has called for a "change in the ruling religious dictatorship in Iran."
