Concern Expressed by Kayvan Samimi's Lawyer Over His Condition; No Charges or Detaining Authority Identified

Mostafa Neyli, Kayvan Samimi's lawyer, expressed his ignorance and concern regarding his client's condition, stating: "More than two weeks have passed since Mr. Samimi's detention, and we are unaware of his status; neither are his charges clear, nor the detaining authority, nor the court handling his case." Mr. Neyli emphasized: "Since the day of Kayvan Samimi's arrest until today, there has been no contact from him; neither the lawyers nor the family know where Mr. Samimi is being held, and no one is answering our questions about the reasons and charges against Mr. Samimi that led to his detention." According to this lawyer, no individual or institution has officially informed them which authority detained Mr. Samimi and under what order, but they suspect that, as in previous instances, the Ministry of Intelligence is responsible for his arrest. Mostafa Neyli also added: "Mr. Samimi does not have an executable sentence; what has led to his detention is, naturally, a new case and charge, but neither the lawyers nor the family have any information about the nature of the charge or the court handling it. It is noteworthy that Adileh Samimi, Kayvan Samimi's daughter, also expressed concern about her father's situation on Wednesday, writing: 'Fourteen days have passed since Kayvan Samimi's detention, and we still have no news of my father.' She explained in this tweet: 'Despite repeated follow-ups by the family and lawyer, they have still not given him a phone, and we do not even know exactly where he is or in which interrogation branch his case is! There are no answers.' This tweet emphasized, 'If this is not kidnapping, what is it?' Kayvan Samimi, 74, who is the editor-in-chief of the magazine 'Nameh,' was released last February after serving two years in prison but was detained again on the first of Ordibehesht for an unknown reason.
