Concerns About the 'Deviation of the Islamic Republic from the Nuclear Agreement'; Republican Senators' Letter to Antony Blinken

Senator Kevin Cramer and a group of Republican senators in the U.S. have requested an update on the International Atomic Energy Agency's investigations into the Islamic Republic's nuclear program in a letter to the Secretary of State. According to a statement from Senator Cramer's office, the Republican senators have urged the government to update the IAEA's investigations into the Islamic Republic's nuclear program, which includes the potential development of nuclear weapons. At the same time, the senators argue that the Islamic Republic has not complied with its commitments under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and have criticized the government for not officially condemning the Islamic Republic. They also expressed their concerns regarding the secrecy of ongoing nuclear negotiations with the Islamic Republic and believe that concealing details from Congress may be illegal. According to the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act passed by Congress, the U.S. Secretary of State must certify every 90 days the Islamic Republic's compliance with the nuclear agreement in a report to Congress. Regarding missile sanctions, Michael McCaul has called for an extension, while Russia states that it no longer sees the need to comply with UN Security Council resolutions regarding the Islamic Republic's missile program. Borrell noted that disagreements over the implementation of the JCPOA remain unresolved. The head of the Atomic Energy Organization stated that they have removed inspectors from countries that have 'harsh positions' against the Islamic Republic. The U.S. has stated that the Islamic Republic must take further steps to reduce tensions to return to the JCPOA.
