The families of two British nationals detained in Iran said on Saturday, February 16, that they are in contact with relevant authorities to ensure their health and safe return to Britain. Iranian state media reported on Thursday that the two British nationals, a man and a woman, were arrested on security charges in Kerman. According to Reuters, the families of the two British nationals identified them as Craig and Lindsay Foreman in a statement released by the British Foreign Office. It is unclear when and under what circumstances these British citizens were detained. The statement expressed concerns about the situation of the two British nationals, noting that their families are focused on ensuring their safety and well-being during this difficult time. It further added that the families are engaging with the British government and relevant authorities and are united in their determination to guarantee their 'safe return.' According to the BBC World Service, the British couple, who are in their early 50s, entered Iran as part of their motorcycle journey around the world. They were reportedly arrested on unspecified security charges in Kerman on January 9, and Iranian state media published this news on Thursday. Craig and Lindsay Foreman, who were on their way to Australia, entered Iran from Armenia on January 9 and intended to travel to Pakistan after a few days. After staying in the cities of Tabriz, Tehran, and Isfahan, they traveled to Kerman with their tour guide but did not reach their hotel. The British couple had expressed happiness and excitement about their trip to Iran on their social media posts. Lindsay Foreman is a life coach with a PhD in psychology, and her husband Craig is a carpenter. Human rights groups and Western governments have repeatedly accused the Iranian government of adopting a 'hostage-taking' policy as a bargaining tool to gain political concessions in recent years. Currently, a number of foreign and dual citizens are imprisoned in the Islamic Republic on baseless charges, and the Iranian government continues to violate its international obligations in this regard.
