Conflicting Reports on New Restrictions Imposed on Mohammad Khatami

The news of new restrictions imposed on Mohammad Khatami, the former president of Iran, quickly spread across social media. According to unconfirmed reports circulating on these channels, a situation similar to house arrest has been established for Khatami, but the Fars and Mehr news agencies have categorically denied the new restrictions. Reports indicate that Mohammad Reza Tabesh, a representative from Ardakan and deputy head of the Hope faction in the Islamic Consultative Assembly, and Khatami's nephew expressed regret over the new restrictions without providing details. In this context, Khabar Online reported that the Special Clerical Court sent a letter signed by the special prosecutor for the clergy, Ebrahim Raisi, to Khatami's home, informing him that he should not participate in any political or promotional events for three months. Khabar Online added that according to this letter, Khatami's presence in meetings, halls, conferences, artistic events such as theater and concerts, as well as participation in various non-family gatherings, even in private meetings, is now prohibited. Ebrahim Raisi is the custodian of the Astan Quds Razavi and the special prosecutor for the clergy, and he was the candidate supported by conservatives in the recent presidential election. Meanwhile, an informed source told Mehr news agency that the reports about the new restrictions imposed on Seyyed Mohammad Khatami are not accurate. Khatami has faced restrictions since the protests against the results of the 2009 presidential election in Iran. Iranian judiciary officials announced in the winter of 2014 that the publication of images and news about Mohammad Khatami is prohibited. Gholamhossein Mohseni Eje'i, the spokesperson and first deputy of the judiciary, previously stated that the ban on images of the former president was based on a resolution by the Supreme National Security Council.
