According to the prosecutor's office, concerns have risen after two teenage boys in the suburbs of Paris were accused this week of assaulting a 12-year-old girl and committing violence with religious motives. Eli Courchia, a lawyer and leader of the Jewish community in France, told the BFM television network that the girl is Jewish and that the assailants mentioned the word 'Palestine' during the attack. The news of this assault comes at a time when the far-right party 'National Rally' led by Marine Le Pen is leading in polls. This party, which has a history of anti-Semitism, has tried to distance itself from this background. However, the possibility of this party gaining power has raised many concerns about the future of minority rights in France. The Associated Press reported that leaders of far-left organizations have also faced significant criticism for their reactions to the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7 of last year; particularly as some view these reactions as provocative and even anti-Semitic. Meanwhile, Gabriel Attal, the Prime Minister of France, wrote on the social media platform 'X' that this 12-year-old girl was 'assaulted because she is Jewish.' The Associated Press also reported that Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, has asked schools in the country to include 'discussion hours' on racism and anti-Semitism in their programs. On the other hand, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, a leader of the French left, condemned 'anti-Semitic racism.' Aryeh Alimi, a lawyer and vice president of the Human Rights Union, also called for a united front against the far right. Thousands protested against the far-right in France, and leftist parties formed a popular front to counter the potential victory of the far right in the elections. Negotiations are underway to form a coalition; the far-right party 'National Rally' hopes to govern France.
