Continuation of Protests in Iran; At Least Ten Gatherings on Sunday, June 7

Protests by workers and gatherings of retirees continued on the seventh day of Khordad in various cities across Iran, with demonstrators demanding the right to live and the ability to cope with rampant inflation. The news organization of the Human Rights Activists in Iran reported that on this day, a number of social security retirees gathered in front of social security offices in the cities of Shush, Ahvaz, Kermanshah, Shushtar, and Isfahan to protest the lack of attention to their demands. Additionally, a group of retirees from the Alborz Western Steel Fund and a group of workers from the Nephline Sinit Complex in Kalibar staged sit-ins at their factories. Several individuals with disabilities also gathered in front of the Iranian Parliament, and a group of students from Yazd University of Medical Sciences held protests on campus, demanding attention to their issues. According to reports, retirees across the country are protesting the poor economic situation, the wage decree of the Supreme Labor Council, discrimination, inequality, and the violation of existing social security laws. The gathering of disabled individuals in front of Parliament was in protest against the 'non-implementation of the Disability Law and the neglect of the rights of disabled individuals in the seventh development plan of the country.' Behnam Morati, the director of the Campaign for the Support of Disabled Individuals, stated that one of the main demands of the disabled is the implementation of Article 27 of the Disability Support Law, which mandates that the government must provide a livelihood allowance for severely disabled individuals without jobs or income at the level of the annual minimum wage, but has so far refrained from doing so. Furthermore, it was reported that on Sunday, June 7, a number of residents of the 'Jouparestan' neighborhood in Kerman held a protest in front of the governor's office, demanding water supply to their neighborhood despite thirty years having passed since the land was allocated to residents. According to these citizens, they receive their drinking water from mobile tankers. Meanwhile, the Free Union of Iran announced that Rahman Soleimani, a labor activist from Baneh, has been sentenced to prison. According to this announcement, Rahman (Omar) Soleimani, who was arrested last year, has been sentenced to 15 months in prison by the court.
