Israeli forces continued bombing targets in southern, northern, and central Gaza on Monday, January 15, prior to a much-anticipated statement from Hamas regarding the fate of three Israelis that the group has taken hostage. These three are among the 240 individuals that Hamas captured during a surprise terrorist attack on southern Israel on October 7. The undated 37-second video featured Noa Argamani, 26, Yossi Sharabi, 53, and Itay Suirsky, 38, and concluded with the statement: 'Tomorrow (Monday), we will inform you of their fate.' Approximately half of the 240 hostages taken by Hamas during the October 7 attack were released during a brief ceasefire in November, but Israel claims that 132 remain in Gaza, and 25 of the Israeli hostages have been killed while in Palestinian captivity. Meanwhile, Wang Yi, China's Foreign Minister, called for the rapid resumption of peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians during a speech in Egypt on Sunday, advocating for a 'clear timeline and roadmap for implementing a two-state solution,' which entails the establishment of a Palestinian state in territories occupied by Israel during the 1967 war. Health officials in Hamas-controlled Gaza reported that 12 Palestinians were killed and several others injured in an Israeli airstrike on a house in the northern Gaza Strip. Israeli tank attacks in Khan Younis, the main city in southern Gaza, also produced columns of smoke. The Hamas-affiliated news agency 'Safa' reported intense clashes between Hamas militants and Israeli forces in Khan Younis, with heavy tank assaults also reported near the al-Bureij and al-Maghazi refugee camps in central Gaza. According to Reuters, in the al-Nuseirat refugee camp, a local journalist showed images of a street where he once lived, stating that the entire neighborhood had been destroyed. Residents of Gaza reported that communications across the Gaza Strip have been cut off for the fourth consecutive day. The Israeli army stated that after an initial comprehensive attack aimed at clearing the densely built northern end of the Gaza Strip, it would continue its military operations more targetedly against Hamas leaders and positions in southern Gaza in the coming months. Approximately two million displaced individuals have sought refuge in tents and other temporary accommodations in southern Gaza, and residents of this small territory are at risk of hunger and disease due to shortages of food, fuel, and medicine. United Nations agencies reiterated their call for a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza on Monday. Following Hamas's October 7 terrorist attack that killed over 1,200 people in Israel, the country has launched an offensive aimed at what it calls the eradication of Hamas. Reports indicate that over 24,000 people have been killed. Israel claims that Hamas uses civilians as human shields. Meanwhile, rescue forces in Israel reported that one person was killed and at least 12 others injured following an attack in the center of the country. According to Sky News, Israeli police stated that two individuals ran over several people with stolen vehicles in the city of Ra'anana, north of Tel Aviv. The police described this incident as a 'multi-vehicle terrorist attack' in which the suspects used three different vehicles, at least one of which was stolen. The police reported that two suspects are from a Palestinian family in Hebron, a city in the occupied West Bank, and entered Israel illegally. However, the Times of Israel also reported that in addition to the vehicle attacks, there were also knife attacks, with the news site reporting 17 injuries and stating that a woman was killed in these attacks.
