Continued Detention of Farhad Navaei; 16-Year-Old Student Reportedly Tortured and Forced to Confess

The Coordinating Council of Teachers' Trade Unions of Iran reported on the uncertainty surrounding Farhad Navaei, a 16-year-old imprisoned student, since November of last year. According to this trade union, Farhad Navaei, a resident of the village of Turshakan in the Mahabad County of West Azerbaijan Province, was arrested by security forces during nationwide protests in early November. Based on this report, this teenage protester has reportedly been tortured and forced to confess during his detention. Judicial authorities have made Farhad Navaei's release conditional upon posting a bail of 2.5 billion tomans. No details have yet been released regarding the charges against this student.
