Continued Hunger Strike and Medication Refusal by Narges Mansouri in Evin; Narges Mohammadi Expressed Concern

One week into the hunger strike of Narges Mansouri, a political activist imprisoned in Evin Prison, Narges Mohammadi, a human rights activist also imprisoned, expressed concern about her condition. The Instagram page attributed to Narges Mohammadi noted on Tuesday, April 29, the seventh day of Narges Mansouri's hunger strike and medication refusal, and stated that Ms. Mansouri has requested the court to revoke the order for the seizure of her mother's house. The news agency of the Human Rights Activists in Iran, Hrana, also reported, citing a source close to the family of this prisoner, that Narges Mansouri, who has a history of previous hunger strikes, has been on hunger strike since Tuesday, April 23, 2024, in protest against the court's decision regarding her case and is demanding the removal of obstacles to her freedom from prison and the cancellation of the order to seize her mother's house. Narges Mansouri, a signatory of the letter known as 'Statement 14' for the transition from the Islamic Republic and the resignation of Ali Khamenei, had also gone on hunger strike in late January 2024 in protest against the 'seizure of her mother's house' and was transferred from Evin to the hospital on February 20 of that year due to symptoms of 'stomach bleeding.' She is also a member of the Syndicate of Workers of the Tehran Bus Company and was sentenced in November 2019 to five years in prison for 'conspiracy and collusion against national security' and one year for 'propaganda against the regime.' She was arrested by government forces in early 2022. This political prisoner was granted medical leave in May 2022 after posting a bail of three billion tomans for treatment but was arrested again by government forces in Khoy County on December 1 and transferred to Evin Prison. In early March 2023, she was sentenced to an additional three years in prison by the Tehran Revolutionary Court for what was termed 'conspiracy and collusion against national security and propaganda against the regime.' Mohammad Ghaemi stated that Narges Mansouri is suspected of having cancer and has gone on a hunger strike and refused medication.
