Continued Hunger Strike of Atena Daemi and Golrokh Ebrahimi Iraee

As the hunger strike of Atena Daemi and Golrokh Ebrahimi Iraee, imprisoned human rights activists, continues since February 3, their father has held the "prosecutor and deputy prosecutor" of Evin prison responsible for his daughter's life. These two human rights activists went on hunger strike ten days after they were transferred from the women's ward of Evin prison to Qarchak prison in Varamin under "beating". The reason for their transfer to Qarchak prison was stated as "refusal to cooperate during interrogation regarding their new case". According to the Human Rights Campaign in Iran, based on a "letter presented to Atena Daemi and Golrokh Iraee in Qarchak prison, this transfer was ordered by Hajji Moradi, the deputy prosecutor overseeing Evin prison". Masoumeh Nemati, Atena Daemi's mother, referring to her daughter's new cases, told this website: "In recent months, she was accused by a personal complaint of having made statements insulting to the leadership and propaganda against the regime while humming songs from a heretical singer in the women's ward of Evin prison. A case was formed against her for these accusations, and twice in December, she and Golrokh Iraee were summoned to the fourth branch of the Evin prison prosecutor's office, but since the summonses were not written and were verbally communicated by the ward officials, they did not go to the prosecutor's office". Reports indicate that Atena Daemi and Golrokh Ebrahimi Iraee had given the judicial authorities ten days to return them to Evin prison by issuing a letter. The HRANA news agency reported on Sunday, February 11, that Atena Daemi "is in poor physical condition due to fluctuations in blood pressure". According to this report, the hunger strike has "affected the liver of this prisoner, and according to the prison doctor, if the strike continues, especially the refusal to drink liquids, it poses life-threatening and physical risks to this prisoner". According to HRANA, Ms. Daemi, despite her "deteriorating" physical condition, is also "refusing" to receive saline, and according to the opinion of the Qarchak prison doctor, "if this continues, there is a possibility of cardiac arrest or similar acute physical problems". Atena Daemi's mother also told HRANA that "Hajji Moradi, the deputy prosecutor of Evin prison" has shown only "harsh and humiliating" behavior in response to her repeated inquiries and stated that the "dry" hunger strike of Atena Daemi and Golrokh Ebrahimi Iraee is "not his concern". According to Ms. Nemati, the deputy prosecutor also tore up her letter requesting the return of these two political prisoners to Evin prison and threw it in the trash. Masoumeh Nemati added that the prosecutor's office officials have also warned her that if she continues her protests, she will also be sent to "Qarchak prison in Varamin". Meanwhile, Hossein Daemi, Atena Daemi's father, has also held the "prosecutor and deputy prosecutor" of Evin prison responsible for his daughter's life, adding that these two political prisoners, "if they die in prison, did not commit suicide, but were killed". HRANA has also reported on the situation of Golrokh Ebrahimi Iraee, stating that she "suffered from a serious illness even before entering prison" and that "the current hunger strike has put her in a complicated and worrying condition". Arash Sadeghi, another civil activist and husband of Golrokh Ebrahimi Iraee, who is imprisoned in Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj, has also been on hunger strike since January 23 in protest against the "illegal" transfer of his wife to Qarchak prison. He, who himself suffers from "severe illness and physical weakness", ended his hunger strike after 11 days "at the request of his fellow inmates". Golrokh Ebrahimi Iraee was arrested on September 15, 2014, along with her husband, Arash Sadeghi. In May 2015, she was sentenced to six years in prison for "insulting sacred things and propaganda against the regime" in Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, a sentence that was upheld in Branch 54 of the Court of Appeals. Ms. Ebrahimi Iraee was accused of "insulting sacred things" for writing an unpublished story about stoning, which security agents discovered when they went to inspect her home. Atena (Fatemeh) Daemi, 29 years old, was arrested on October 21, 2014, and was interrogated for 86 days in solitary confinement in Ward 2-A. She was transferred to the women's ward of Evin prison on January 18 of the same year after the interrogations ended. Ms. Daemi was sentenced to 14 years in prison on charges of "propaganda against the regime, conspiracy and collusion against national security, insulting the leadership, insulting the founder of the Islamic Republic, and concealing evidence of a crime". This sentence was reduced to seven years in prison in the Court of Appeals.
