Continued Unrest in Turkey: Death of Two More Police Officers in Diyarbakir Due to Bomb Explosion

Turkish commandos dispatched to the mountainous areas of Sirnak are still pursuing PKK members. The report describes the situation in Diyarbakir, located in southeastern Turkey, as highly unstable, prompting provincial officials to issue a curfew for central areas of the city early Sunday morning. On this day, Diyarbakir witnessed multiple acts of violence, including the explosion of a bomb-laden vehicle near a checkpoint. According to Turkish security forces, PKK rebels also shot an RPG in civilian areas of Diyarbakir, killing one police officer and injuring another. Residents of the Sur district of Diyarbakir reported hearing continuous gunfire, but no reports of potential casualties from this shooting have been released yet. Over the past two months, following the end of the ceasefire between the army and PKK rebels, Turkey has experienced bloody clashes resulting in the deaths of more than 100 police and army personnel and hundreds of PKK members. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has emphasized that this war will continue until not 'a single terrorist remains' in Turkey. The conflict between PKK separatists and the Turkish army began in 1984, claiming over 40,000 lives over the years. The Turkish government, as well as the European Union and the United States, consider the PKK a terrorist organization.
