According to Lively's complaint, after she criticized the issue of sexual harassment and the difficult filming conditions for women on set, Baldoni and the other producer allegedly hired a PR firm to damage her reputation. Just a few days later, the New York Times published a detailed report referencing documents filed in California court that described events on the film set, leading to widespread negative reactions against Justin Baldoni on social media and the termination of his relationship with the agency that represented him. Simultaneously, a women's rights organization in the US revoked an award previously given to Baldoni. In recent years, Baldoni has defended women's rights in the media. Now, this young Hollywood director and producer has filed a lawsuit against the New York Times in court, claiming that the newspaper's report is inaccurate and solely relies on Lively's narrative. Baldoni is seeking $250 million in damages from the New York Times. He has also accused Blake Lively of making false sexual assault allegations to gain control over the film. Lively is one of the film's producers and has overseen a new edit of Baldoni's film, which has also been released in theaters. Baldoni's counter-suit comes as other actors from the film have stopped following him on social media for months, and the author of the book on which the film is based has supported Lively. This support adds to the widespread backing from the Hollywood Actors Guild, several famous Hollywood actors, and Sony's support for Blake Lively, who is among the film's producers. On Wednesday, January 1, Lively also filed a lawsuit in federal court against Justin Baldoni, indicating that she intends to pursue this case until a resolution is reached.
