Coup in Turkey?

In its statement, the Turkish army said it has taken control of the country in the name of supporting the democratic system and protecting human rights. The army's statement clarified that Ankara's relations with other countries have been maintained and that the rule of law will be the military's main priority. Meanwhile, the state-affiliated Anadolu Agency reported that senior military members at military bases, including the Chief of General Staff, have reportedly been taken hostage. Earlier, Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım stated that part of the Turkish army had attempted to seize power 'without respecting the hierarchy.'
