Court of Appeals Upholds Sentence of Whipping for Former Political Prisoner Hossein Razagh

Hossein Razagh, a former political prisoner, announced the confirmation of his sentence of 74 lashes by the Court of Appeals due to his 'absence from Amol prison.' This media activist wrote on his 'X' page that he received notifications regarding this case 'five months after his presence in Evin prison' and 'under the title of absence from Amol prison.' In part of his note, he added: 'Everything seemed like a joke. But after the issuance of the sentence and now its confirmation, it has been completely proven that this system has shifted the scale of absurdity!' This political activist also published a portion of the ruling from Branch 98 of the Tehran Court of Appeals, stating: 'The appellate judge commented on the judicial documents that proved from what date I had been in Evin prison, deeming them irrelevant and ineffective!' While in Evin prison, Hossein Razagh filed complaints against several security and judicial officials for assaulting him in Ward 209 of this prison, which belongs to the Ministry of Intelligence. The Human Rights Defenders Center had previously reported on serious illnesses of Hossein Razagh, including Guillain-Barré syndrome. This political activist, who was imprisoned on charges including 'conspiracy and collusion against national security' and 'propaganda against the regime,' was released on June 11 of this year.
