Political prisoner Bijan Kazemi, 45, after enduring 16 months of uncertainty, interrogation, and excruciating torture in secret detention centers and security wards, was sentenced to a total of 37 years and 6 months in prison by Branch 15 of the sham Revolutionary Court in Tehran, presided over by the executioner judge Abolqasem Salavati.
Bijan was arrested by intelligence agents in Kuhdasht, Lorestan province, on January 21, 2025, and transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison, where he was subjected to torture. After the evacuation of Evin Prison in July 2025, he was transferred to Fashafouyeh Prison and then returned to Evin in October 2025. A statement issued by the Secretariat of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) on July 4, 2025, noted: “Interrogators claim that he provided weapons to the assailant of Razini and Moghiseh, two senior executioners of the regime’s judiciary.” Bijan had previously been arrested in April 2020 and incarcerated in Khorramabad Prison for over two years.
In another criminal and inhumane act, political prisoner Mojtaba Taghavi, 58, the brother of martyred PMOI member Mohammad Taghavi, who was executed on March 30, 2026, was transferred from prison to the Aminabad psychiatric hospital. This action further intensifies the pressure on him and the Taghavi family. Mojtaba was arrested in March 2024 solely for being in contact with his brother. After months of torture and interrogation, he was sentenced to 6 years and 7 months in prison in October 2024. The executioners vindictively harassed Mojtaba, and especially after his brother’s martyrdom, they disrupted the delivery of his medications.
The ruling religious fascism in Iran, terrified of the eruption of the people’s anger and in an effort to prevent an uprising, is attempting to create an atmosphere of fear and terror by intensifying executions and suppression, issuing heavy prison sentences, and harassing political prisoners. The Iranian Resistance once again reiterates the imperative for a United Nations fact-finding mission to visit Iran’s prisons and meet with prisoners, especially political prisoners.
