Crisis Management Organization: Most Hospitals in Tehran Should Be Closed

The head of the Crisis Management Organization of Tehran said on Friday, January 7, that Tehran is not in good shape regarding 'hospital management' and added that most of these health centers have unstable structural conditions and could collapse at any moment. According to the IRIB news agency, Ali Nasiri, speaking at the conference on 'Disaster Risk Management in the Health System,' stated that half of the hospitals in Tehran are concentrated in five municipal districts, and most hospitals in the capital are so unsafe and dangerous that it would be better for them to close their doors. The Attorney General's Office had previously announced the specifications of unsafe buildings in Tehran, stating that several major health centers, including Rasoul Akram, Khomeini, Tarfeh, Sina, Bouali, Martyrs of Yaftabad, Loulager, and Fayyazbakhsh, do not meet the necessary safety standards and require serious reconstruction or renovation. Anoushiravan Mohseni Bandpay, the then governor of Tehran, had also stated in January 2020 that 'only one public hospital has been built in Tehran since the revolution, and the national average for hospital beds per thousand people is 1.6%, which is also true for Tehran province.' According to published statistics, Tehran, with a population of about 15 million, has 118 hospitals, including 49 public hospitals, 55 private hospitals, and 14 military hospitals.
