Daily Formation of 1600 Dispute Cases in Iran

On Sunday, June 14, the Mehr News Agency reported that 590,000 people in Iran visited forensic medicine in 2014 due to "assault and battery in disputes." The agency also announced that an average of 1600 cases of "injury-causing disputes" are formed daily in Iran's forensic centers. According to this report, last year, 107,177 cases of "injury-causing disputes" were recorded in the forensic medicine of Tehran province. The forensic organization had previously announced that the number of visitors to this organization due to disputes in 2013 was 607,349. The organization also reported the formation of 106,950 dispute cases in Tehran's forensic medicine in 2013. Experts consider economic problems, poverty, unemployment, drug use, disputes over property, overpricing, frustration and social pressure, sexual dissatisfaction, and lack of education in anger management as the main factors leading to conflicts and disputes in Iran. Meanwhile, Mehdi Saberi, head of the psychiatric examinations section of Tehran's forensic medicine, identified economic issues, migration, inability to adapt to new environments, and cultural clashes as significant factors contributing to the increase in disputes. He added, "On the other hand, in large cities... after a tense and exhausting day, an individual is prone to conflict and reacts to the slightest provocation." The head of Branch 71 of the Tehran Criminal Court (specializing in murder) also mentioned issues of honor, morality, ethnicity, and financial matters as reasons for street disputes. Aziz Mohammadi stated, "When you refer to murder cases, you see that the murderer is often astonished by their actions, and in a way... 70% of these cases are formed by this momentary madness." Previously, Hadi Mostafaei, deputy for combating serious crimes in the police, had noted that 799 people were killed with cold weapons in 2012, stating that 75% of these murders were "unplanned and without prior intent." He cited many street murders as stemming from minor disputes, such as disagreements over parking spaces, car accidents, complaints about loud motorcycle noises or mobile phone usage, and bumping into someone while walking on the sidewalk. In this context, "more than 91,000 people" were injured due to disputes in Tehran.
