Dana Lanjabadi, Civil Activist in Marivan, Temporarily Released on 500 Million Toman Bail

The Kurdistan Human Rights Network reported the temporary release of Dana Lanjabadi, a civil activist from Marivan in Kurdistan province, after converting his detention order to a bail of 500 million tomans. According to this report, Mr. Lanjabadi was released from the city’s prison on March 13 after three weeks of detention. Until March 12, he was under interrogation at the Marivan Intelligence Department detention center. Dana Lanjabadi was charged with 'propaganda against the regime' after his arrest and was imprisoned under a one-month temporary detention order at the Marivan Intelligence Department. The 'Kurdpa' website also reported in mid-March that this civil activist had 'very limited' contact with his family during his detention and was 'deprived of access to a lawyer and family visits.' Mr. Lanjabadi was previously arrested in 2012 after students at Payame Noor University in Marivan held a sit-in protest against the 'execution of three Kurdish political prisoners.' The Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners has stated that he was previously sentenced by the Marivan Revolutionary Court in 2012 to one year and eight months in prison and 50 lashes for 'propaganda against the regime' and 'disturbing public order.' Reports also indicate that this civil activist has been blacklisted by the Intelligence Department and was deprived of continuing his education at 'Payame Noor University in Marivan.'
