Darfashan: Nasrin Sotoudeh's Case Sent to the Revolutionary Court

Payam Darfashan, the defense lawyer for Nasrin Sotoudeh, a human rights lawyer currently imprisoned, stated on Saturday, December 15, that the indictment of his client has been issued and sent to the Revolutionary Court. According to IRNA, Darfashan mentioned that the indictment was issued in the second investigative branch of the Security Prosecutor's Office and forwarded to Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Moghiseh. He added that some of the charges against his client were dismissed in the investigative branch, while others were added, and more precise information could be provided after reviewing the case in court. Darfashan clarified that 'Nasrin Sotoudeh had two cases in the Security Prosecutor's Office, one related to a complaint from the Kashan prosecutor against her, and the other concerning charges of membership in the Legam campaign (step-by-step abolition of the death penalty).' Meanwhile, according to Darfashan, Nasrin Sotoudeh has been sentenced to five years in prison by a default ruling from Judge Moghiseh of Branch 28 and is currently serving this sentence. Darfashan stated that in this case, the charges against Sotoudeh, according to the issued indictment, were propaganda against the regime and insulting the leadership, but Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court issued a verdict against her for espionage. He noted that when they pointed this out, the deputy prosecutor of Evin's execution office sent a letter to the court president objecting and stating that the verdict did not match the indictment, but the judge responded that, in the court's view, the charge against Nasrin Sotoudeh was espionage. Nasrin Sotoudeh was arrested on June 13. Previously, in 2010, she was also arrested and sentenced to six years in prison and a ten-year ban from practicing law. After serving three years in prison, she was released in 2013.
