David Copperfield, renowned magician, accused of sexual assault by at least 16 women

The Guardian revealed in an exclusive report that at least 16 women have accused David Copperfield, the internationally famous magician, of sexual harassment. In the report published on Wednesday, May 15, three women accused Copperfield of drugging them before sexual intercourse. Several of these women testified, either under pseudonyms or their real names, that they were underage victims of sexual assault. David Copperfield, 67, who has been active for several decades and is considered one of the most famous magicians in the world, has denied all these allegations through his lawyers. The Guardian's report is based on interviews with over a hundred people and an examination of documents and police and court reports spanning at least 30 years. Some of the women mentioned in the report stated that after the #MeToo movement began and numerous cases of sexual harassment by some famous men were revealed in 2018, they found the ability to speak about their experiences with Copperfield. In response, Copperfield's lawyers described him in their written response to The Guardian as a pioneer and advocate of the #MeToo movement. In 2018, another woman accused the magician of drugging and assaulting her when she was only 17 years old in 1988. David Copperfield gained fame in the 1980s through his astonishing illusions, such as making the Statue of Liberty disappear, and has been performing at least 500 shows annually in Las Vegas, USA, for many years. His name has repeatedly appeared on lists of the world's richest men.
