Deadly 'Terrorist' Attack on Turkish Aerospace Industries Headquarters

A shooting attack on the headquarters of Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) near Ankara on Wednesday, November 2, left several dead and wounded. As of the time of this report, the number of fatalities from this attack has been reported as 4, with 14 others injured. The Turkish government has stated that this act was a 'terrorist' attack. In response to this incident, the White House also condemned the attack 'strongly.' Meanwhile, Turkish television networks showed footage of several armed assailants entering the company building, along with reports of gunfire and a massive explosion. Ali Yerlikaya, Turkey's Minister of Interior, reported on social media platform 'X' that two of the attackers were killed. The cause and perpetrators of the explosion and shooting have not yet been identified. Yilmaz Tunç, Turkey's Minister of Justice, stated that investigations into the attack have begun. Some media outlets reported that a suicide attack occurred and that hostages were also inside the building, but Turkish officials have not confirmed this. Witnesses told Reuters that employees inside the building were taken to a shelter and no one was allowed to exit. They suggested that bombings may have occurred at various exits of the building. The state-run Anadolu Agency reported that emergency services have been dispatched to the scene. Published images show the attackers entering the building with assault weapons and backpacks. TUSAŞ is one of Turkey's most important defense and aerospace companies, employing over 10,000 staff. Turkey has been conducting extensive airstrikes against PKK positions in the Iraqi Kurdistan region. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan called for a unity of Islamic countries against Israel. Israel claims to have thwarted a Hamas 'bombing plot' originating from within Turkey.
