Death of Five Police Officers by 'Several Snipers' in Dallas, USA

During protests against police shootings of Black individuals, shootings occurred in Dallas that resulted in the deaths of five police officers. The condition of several other injured officers is also critical. The Chief of Police of Dallas, Texas, announced this news on July 18. Several people have also been arrested during the protest demonstrations in New York. The protests, which were mostly peaceful, became tense following the shooting and death of a Black citizen in Louisiana, after the killing of another Black citizen by police in Minnesota. Reuters reports that tensions in the protests have clearly increased following the shooting in Minnesota. Barack Obama, the President of the United States, has reacted to the recent police shootings. After arriving in Warsaw to attend the NATO summit, he spoke to reporters and said, 'When events like this happen, a large group of our citizens will think that they are treated differently because of their skin color. And this is painful. This should concern us all. This is not just a Black issue or a Hispanic issue; this is an American issue. Every fair-minded person should be concerned.' David Brown, the Chief of Police of Dallas, stated that the fallen officers were targeted by two snipers. In total, 11 police officers in the city were shot at. A citizen's video of the events in Dallas was shared on Twitter. The Dallas police later announced that one of the suspects in the shooting had been arrested, and it was also reported that another individual had surrendered. Additionally, a bomb squad was sent to inspect a suspicious package at one of the locations targeted by police investigations. Another video posted by a citizen on YouTube showed the shooting scene. In recent days, during a police shooting in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a Black citizen was killed. Shortly after, 1,700 kilometers away in Minnesota, a similar shooting occurred. Another Black citizen was killed in a police shooting after being stopped for a malfunctioning taillight. In this recent case, the girlfriend of the deceased, who was in the car with him, live-streamed the incident on Facebook. This video was then widely shared on social media. In Louisiana, images of the deceased were also recorded by a mobile phone. In both cases, the Department of Justice has been asked to conduct investigations. The initial protests were peaceful, but the killing of the second Black citizen in recent days has heightened tensions.
