It is clear that we have a specific process for such deaths, where the coroner must conduct their investigations first. However, in such investigations, the cause of death at the 'moment of death' is usually clarified. The Minister of Immigration issued a statement hours ago claiming that there is no suspicious matter related to this death. This usually implies that the death occurred as a result of suicide. Even if it is determined that Mr. Chaghini committed suicide, this explanation will not be sufficient, and what I mean by a comprehensive investigation is that everything leading to this death must be clarified. What role did his long-term detention play in this incident? He was returned to detention after being convicted of a conflict with another person; what were the conditions of his detention again on Christmas Island? About two and a half years ago, it was agreed that this man (Fazel Chaghini) should be granted asylum, thus he was under the protection of the Australian government, which had a responsibility. However, due to new charges, he was returned to Christmas Island. Therefore, even if he committed suicide, the reasons leading to his death must be sought at the threshold of entering Australia. But Mr. Minas, do you see any will from the Australian government to stop this situation or change these conditions, or will this process continue? This is the issue. This process leads us to believe that the investigations have been somewhat superficial. However, a superficial investigation by the coroner will say that this man was depressed, wanted to escape from the detention center, and committed suicide. This explains nothing. This detention process has been in place since the 1990s. In the previous government, the number of people arriving by boat had significantly increased, and a kind of manufactured panic was created by the government, which strongly opposed these boats. The Prime Minister's slogan was: Stop the boats. Now that the number of boats has decreased, it is evaluated as a somewhat successful policy, while this is far from success for those in detention centers. This is a simplistic reaction to a complex global problem.
