Death of Mathematician Whose Life Inspired 'A Beautiful Mind'

John Nash, the renowned American mathematician and Nobel Prize winner in 1994, whose life inspired the film 'A Beautiful Mind,' died in a car accident alongside his wife. American news networks report that 86-year-old John Nash and his 82-year-old wife, Alicia, passed away after the taxi they were in crashed into a guardrail. According to Reuters, the taxi driver lost control of the vehicle. The incident occurred in New Jersey on the evening of May 23, U.S. time. John Nash won the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1994 for the development of 'game theory,' alongside Reinhard Selten and John Harsanyi. He was a professor at Princeton University and held several honorary doctorates from prestigious universities. Mr. Nash suffered from delusional schizophrenia from a young age and spent 30 years of his life battling the illness. Part of this struggle and his work inspired the creation of the film 'A Beautiful Mind,' although the film's narrative was not entirely faithful to all events in his life. 'A Beautiful Mind,' directed by Ron Howard and starring Russell Crowe and Jennifer Connelly, won several Academy Awards. Ron Howard, following the death of John and Alicia Nash, stated that it was an honor for him to have been able to portray part of their lives. A documentary titled 'A Brilliant Madness' has also been made based on John Nash's life.
