Death of Shani Louk, German-Israeli Citizen, Confirmed

The body of Shani Louk, a German-Israeli citizen previously mentioned as one of Hamas's hostages, has been found, and her sister confirmed Shani's death on Instagram. Shani Louk was seen in images shared on the day of the attack lying on the back of a truck after being abducted and taken to Gaza. Although it was unclear in that video whether she was alive, Louk's mother announced that she was alive and being held in a hospital in Gaza. The Jerusalem Post reported that the exact circumstances of Louk's death are still unclear, and it is also unknown where her body was found. A relative of Louk stated that the family received an official notice from the Israeli army and the ZAKA organization that a bone from the base of Louk's skull matching her DNA had been found. Doctors determined that a person found without a skull bone could not survive and concluded that Louk likely could not still be alive. Louk's mother, Rikarda, also told RTL Germany on Sunday that she was informed her daughter was no longer alive. The National Security Council of the White House responded on Thursday to a question from the Persian section of Voice of America regarding the Iranian government's proposal to play a role in the release of Hamas hostages, stating: 'We are in discussions with our partners for the release of all hostages.' Hamas militants took more than 200 people hostage in a terrorist attack on Israeli territory on October 7. A young woman after her friend was taken hostage by Hamas: 'Release her.' The Israeli Defense Minister stated: 'The ground attack on Hamas is part of the effort to free the hostages.' Families of Israeli hostages are worried about their loved ones following Israel's ground attacks on Gaza.
