Democratic Senator Supports Possible Military Action by Trump Against the Islamic Republic

John Fetterman, a Democratic senator, stated that he would definitely support President Donald Trump's decision for military action against the Islamic Republic if deemed necessary. Fetterman, who is a senator from Pennsylvania, told CNN that he views the Iranian regime as toxic and 'the largest financial supporter of terrorism in the world.' According to the Jerusalem Post, Fetterman also remarked that if the Islamic Republic regime were to be eliminated, 'the world would be better, safer, and more just.' His comments were welcomed by Lindsey Graham, a senior Republican senator, who has repeatedly called for action against the Islamic Republic and even urged the President to issue a command to kill Ali Khamenei. On Monday night, he warned Khamenei to 'watch out for drones!' He stated that the Islamic Republic has crossed a 'red line.' Fetterman's stance is significant as, following the U.S. action in detaining Nicolás Maduro, the President of Venezuela, several Democratic senators criticized Trump's decision and attempted to limit the President's war powers with a symbolic proposal; although the proposal was passed, it did not become binding law. According to the U.S. Constitution, the President is the commander-in-chief of the armed forces and can take limited or immediate military actions within his powers, but large-scale and long-term military operations usually require Congressional approval, a topic that has always been a point of contention between the White House and lawmakers. The international reactions to anti-government protests in Iran continue, with the White House spokesperson stating that airstrikes against the Islamic Republic are on Trump's list of options.
