Democrats in the House of Representatives Hold Meeting One Day After Donald Trump's Speech

On Wednesday afternoon, March 6, American Democrats held a meeting in Congress to reflect the "voices of ordinary American citizens" who, according to them, have been harmed by Donald Trump's policies and the budget proposals of the Republicans. The event, titled "Voices of the American People," was announced by Hakeem Jeffries, the Democratic leader in the House of Representatives, and took place one day after Mr. Trump's speech before Congress. Hakeem Jeffries described Mr. Trump's speech as "one of the most divisive presidential speeches in American history." The Democratic leader criticized the Republican budget proposal, calling it "the largest cut to the government insurance program (Medicaid) in American history," stating, "We, the Democrats in Congress, will stand firmly against the policies of the current administration in courts, communities, cities, and towns to end this national nightmare and revive the American dream for every individual in this country." Several Democrats decided to boycott Mr. Trump's speech or walked out during it. Some also chose to hold up signs in protest, and a Democratic lawmaker named Al Green from Texas was escorted out after a strong protest. One of the current major challenges for the President of the United States is uniting Republicans in the Senate and House of Representatives to pass the U.S. government budget before the deadline of March 15. Mr. Trump told members of Congress and other attendees that his administration had achieved more in the past 43 days (since taking office) than many do in a full presidential term, stating, "We have just begun our work" and "the American dream is unstoppable in our country." Trump also urged Democrats to work with him for the good of the country. He mentioned executive orders, economic actions, and border security policies, stating that he has signed nearly 100 presidential orders and taken over 400 executive actions. According to Trump, these actions aim to "restore common sense, security, optimism [for the future], and wealth" across the country.
