Deputy Commander of Police: No News on Arrests of Acid Attack Perpetrators in Isfahan

According to the Deputy Commander of Iran's Law Enforcement Force, there is currently no news regarding the arrest of the perpetrator or perpetrators of the acid attacks in Isfahan. Hossein Ashtari announced this on the first of Bahman during a meeting. Previously, Ismail Ahmadi-Moqaddam, the commander of the Islamic Republic's Law Enforcement, had stated that 'the issue of the acid attacks in Isfahan has not yet reached a conclusion.' The issue of the acid attacks on a group of women in Isfahan has not yet been resolved even after more than three months, and no news of the arrest of the perpetrator or perpetrators has been published. Mr. Ahmadi-Moqaddam also mentioned to reporters that raising questions about the acid attacks in Isfahan creates a 'psychological insecurity.' In this context, Hossein Zolfaqari, the Deputy Security Minister of Iran, recently stated that the main suspects of the acid attacks in Isfahan have not yet been identified, and that '191,000' individuals are being investigated to identify the perpetrators of this crime, adding that it cannot be said with 'certainty' whether the main suspect has left the country. According to this official, in addition to examining 191,000 individuals from 'a certain group,' black motorcycles in Isfahan, all divorce cases, and 'all mentally ill patients in Isfahan' are being reviewed to identify the perpetrators of the serial acid attacks in this city. All of this is happening while Mahdieh Golroo, a member of the Women's Citizenship Association and a participant in the protest against the acid attacks in Isfahan, remains in custody. The Minister of Health visited the acid attack victim in a specialized eye hospital a few days ago, stating that 'the Minister of Interior is repeatedly following up on the identification and arrest of the perpetrators of the acid attacks in Isfahan.' Hassan Hashemi, the Minister of Health, also explained the treatment process of Soheila Jorkesh, saying, 'Many surgeries have been performed on the victim's eyes and skin, and all efforts have been made to preserve her eyesight; because the cornea of both eyes has been perforated and a large part of the eye's structure has been damaged.' In response to the question of whether the President has followed up on the status of the acid attack victim, he stated: 'The President has tasked us with providing quality health services for all people in Iran, and this is part of our duty and must be done; of course, this issue has other dimensions and should not be neglected.' Mr. Hashemi also mentioned other incidents of acid attacks after the Isfahan incident, stating that 'there have been cases reported to me that are more personal and familial.' The Minister of Health also announced that the government will cover the medical expenses of the acid attack victim, stating: 'Even if it is necessary for her to go abroad for continued treatment, the costs will be covered. However, what is certain is that there is currently no need for transfer.'
