Deputy Representative of Iran's Leader in the IRGC: Some Infiltrators are 'Under Control'

The deputy representative of Iran's leader in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that "multiple infiltration cases" have been discovered in Iran, including within the "Iranian nuclear negotiating team with the West," adding that some infiltrators are currently "under control." According to Rasa News Agency, Abdullah Hajizadeh made this claim on the evening of February 6 during a "Basirat" meeting held in Qom to commemorate the victory of the 1979 Revolution. In response to the question of whether infiltration in the nuclear negotiating team and informing intelligence services before meetings is true, he stated that "unfortunately, the cases of infiltration that have been discovered are numerous, and this is one of them." Abdullah Hajizadeh added: "We regret to say that the enemy has not only infiltrated ideologically and changed the thoughts and analyses of some officials, but in some cases, they have inserted their own people, some of whom have been exposed and dealt with, and punished, while others are still under control." The deputy representative of the Supreme Leader in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard also noted that "government officials have, in some cases, thanked those who helped identify these infiltrators." He described the enemy's method for destroying the revolution as "interaction, negotiation, and communication" and considered infiltration a "major threat" against the Islamic Republic. According to this IRGC official, "based on the Quran, in the conflict between arrogance and Muslims, and the front of faith and disbelief," there is never a "win-win" situation, and "one should not be deceived by the game of smiles." The issue of "infiltration" in the Islamic Republic of Iran was raised by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei after the signing of the "JCPOA" agreement last July, with his supporters directly and indirectly identifying the government as a center of foreign infiltration. Close associates of the Supreme Leader have repeatedly stated that Hassan Rouhani's government is seeking to improve relations with the U.S. and the West following the Vienna nuclear agreement. In contrast, several individuals close to Hassan Rouhani, including Ali Shamkhani, the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, and Ali Motahari, a representative from Tehran in the Parliament, have warned about "political reckoning" and the "factional use of the infiltration issue." Previously, Yahya Rahim Safavi, the Supreme Leader's military advisor, warned on February 3 about "the enemies' attempts to infiltrate decision-making centers" in Iran and also about "efforts to weaken resistance and exhaust value-driven forces." According to Mehr News Agency, he added: "One of the most important infiltrations in this regard is human infiltration and the employment of individuals in various decision-making centers who serve the enemies." Mr. Rahim Safavi also identified issues such as "attempts to weaken resistance and exhaust value-driven forces in the Islamic system" and "efforts to create division and rift between the authorities and the people" as other "enemy plans." Typically, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic and his supporters refer to the U.S. and Israel as the "enemy." Meanwhile, American officials have repeatedly emphasized that their country has no hostility towards the Iranian people. They have warned against what they call "interventionist" and "destabilizing" actions in the Middle East by Iran.
