Detention of Milad Saidianjou's Sister; Continued Imprisonment of 16-Year-Old Due to Inability to Post Bail

The sister of Milad Saidianjou, a protester killed in Izeh, who had been missing in Tehran since Sunday, reported her detention in a phone call. News sources have also reported that Farhad Navaei, a 16-year-old student sentenced to two years in prison, remains in jail due to his inability to post bail. Fatemeh Heydari, the sister of Javad Heydari, one of the victims of protests in Qazvin, tweeted on Tuesday, July 9, that Zahra Saidianjou, sister of Omid Saidianjou, one of the victims of the crackdown on protests in Izeh, has been detained. According to Fatemeh Heydari, there had been no news of Zahra Saidianjou since she left her workplace in Tehran on Sunday, but on Tuesday she "called and said she has been in detention since yesterday and they want to transfer her to Izeh." The reason for the detention of Milad Saidianjou's sister has been stated as "sympathy with grieving families." Additionally, news sources reported the continued detention of a 16-year-old in a juvenile correctional facility due to "inability to post bail." According to the Kurdistan Human Rights Network, Farhad Navaei, a protesting 16-year-old from Mahabad, has been "denied access to his appointed lawyer since his arrest." The Mizan news agency, affiliated with the judiciary, previously reported on July 1 that this teenager was sentenced to "two years of imprisonment for conspiracy and collusion to commit crimes against internal security." Farhad Navaei was arrested during popular protests in Aban 1401 by security forces. This protesting teenager was also accused of "moharebeh" (waging war against God), from which he was acquitted, and the Mahabad criminal court issued a two-year prison sentence for him. According to Mizan news agency, "his temporary detention order was converted to bail long ago," but since he cannot afford to pay the bail, he remains in the juvenile correctional facility. Farhad Navaei lives in the village of "Turshakan" in the Mahabad County of West Azerbaijan Province, and according to the Coordinating Council of Teachers' Unions, he has been forced to make "coerced confessions" during detention.
