Detention of Sharifeh Mohammadi Extended Despite Urgent Need for Surgery

The detention of Sharifeh Mohammadi, a labor activist imprisoned in Rasht, has been extended after 94 days in jail, despite her urgent need for surgery due to a "toe infection." The 4th branch of the Revolutionary Court in Rasht has rejected her bail application. According to the website "Bidar Zani," citing her husband, Sirous Fathi, it was reported that "Sharifeh Mohammadi suffers from a severe infection in her toe and requires immediate surgery, but the lack of medical facilities in the women's section of Lakan Prison in Rasht has exacerbated her infection and worsened her condition, causing concern for her family." Sharifeh Mohammadi was arrested on December 5 in Rasht by agents of the Islamic Republic and was transferred to Sanandaj Prison after a few days. A labor organization in Iran reported that this labor activist was moved from Sanandaj Prison to Lakan Prison in Rasht on February 25, but during her interrogation in Sanandaj, she was subjected to beatings by interrogators. The Telegram channel of the "Coordination Council of Iranian Teachers' Trade Unions" reported on January 13, 2023, that interrogators from the Sanandaj Intelligence Department pressured Sharifeh Mohammadi to obtain forced confessions. So far, security and judicial officials of the Islamic Republic have not provided any explanation regarding the charges against Sharifeh Mohammadi. The judiciary's opposition to Sharifeh Mohammadi's temporary release continues. Sharifeh Mohammadi, a labor activist, was moved from Sanandaj Prison to Lakan Prison in Rasht.
