Deteriorating Health of Political Prisoner Jaber Sokhrawi in Shiban Prison, Ahvaz

Some human rights sources report that Jaber Sokhrawi, an Arab political prisoner held in Shiban Prison in Ahvaz, is deprived of appropriate medical care and transfer to external treatment facilities despite his poor physical condition. The human rights organization HRANA announced that since July 6, Mr. Sokhrawi has been unconscious due to worsening health and symptoms of a stroke. The news agency also reported that after this incident, 'his speech has become slow and incomprehensible.' Previously, the human rights media Hengaw had reported on April 3 that Mr. Sokhrawi suffers from illnesses such as 'multiple sclerosis, kidney problems, stomach issues, urinary tract pain and burning, and mental health problems.' Seventeen political prisoners in Shiban Prison have been 'deprived' of visits and medical services. The media also reported that Mr. Sokhrawi has 'suffered at least one stroke.' Radio Farda has not yet been able to independently verify this news. Jaber Sokhrawi is serving a 12-year and six-month sentence in section five of Shiban Prison without adherence to the principle of separation of crimes. The charge against this political prisoner, as declared by the Revolutionary Court of Ahvaz, is 'acting against national security through armed struggle.' He was among 17 political prisoners in Shiban Prison who were deprived of access to medical and health services and family visits in April. Additionally, some prisoners have died under suspicious circumstances, such as Sattar Beheshti, who was tortured, or Alireza Shir Mohammad Ali, a young protester who was stabbed inside the prison, or Javad Rouhi, a young protester who died under suspicious circumstances in prison.
