Detroit Shock Wins WNBA Championship

In the women's basketball scene in the United States, on Tuesday night at the Auburn Hills arena outside Detroit, in front of a crowd of 22,000, the Detroit Shock defeated the defending champions, the Los Angeles Sparks, with a score of 83 to 78 in the third and decisive game of the WNBA Finals. This was the highest-scoring final game in the league's seven-year history, with Ruth Riley scoring 27 points to lead the Detroit team to victory. The Detroit Shock had the most wins in this season of women's professional basketball in the U.S. with 25 wins, having previously been the worst team in the league last season with 23 losses. In other words, the women's basketball club from Detroit went from being the worst team to the best team in just one year. The Los Angeles Sparks had easily won the first game of the finals series, but in an exciting second game, Detroit triumphed with a score of 62 to 61. The head coach of the new champions, the Detroit Shock, is Bill Laimbeer, who is considered one of the stars in the history of men's professional basketball in the U.S. and once played for the Detroit Pistons.
