Diplomats: Iran has complied with the reduction of enriched uranium reserves

According to Western diplomats, Iran has complied with one of the most important conditions of the initial nuclear agreement regarding the significant reduction of its enriched uranium reserves, which can be used in the construction of nuclear weapons. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is expected to officially announce this matter. If Iran had failed to meet this important condition, it would have dealt a severe blow to the ongoing negotiations between Tehran and global powers. These negotiations have now been extended for another week, and the presidents of the United States and Iran have warned about the possibility of withdrawing from them if no agreement is reached. Enriched uranium has dual-use applications. Despite Iran's repeated emphasis that its enrichment program is for peaceful purposes, this material can be used in the construction of nuclear weapons, which is why the reduction of its reserves was one of the main conditions of the initial negotiations. Iran had agreed to oxidize or dilute its enriched uranium above 20 percent. At the same time, Tehran was supposed to limit its low-enriched uranium reserves to just over 7.6 tons and alter the remainder in a way that experts deem safe. In June, the IAEA announced that Iran had reduced its 20 percent enriched uranium reserves by more than 80 percent, bringing them down to 38.4 kilograms. Last month, the monitoring agency expressed concern that Iran's low-enriched uranium reserves were above eight tons, raising concerns that Tehran might not be able to fulfill its commitment in this regard. However, now - according to the Associated Press - although the reported figure may fluctuate slightly, Tehran has fulfilled its commitments. This matter is expected to be officially announced on July 1. According to unnamed diplomats, the official announcement will show that Tehran has brought its reserves to an acceptable level. In this context, Iran and the P5+1 have extended nuclear negotiations for another week. Rouhani: If they violate the agreement, we will return to the previous path. Obama: If the path to Iran obtaining nuclear weapons is not blocked, there will be no agreement.
