Diplomats Present Strongly Worded Resolution on Iran's Nuclear Activities

Diplomats at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have presented a strongly worded resolution criticizing Iran for its lack of full cooperation with the agency's investigations into its nuclear activities. The resolution, which is expected to be approved by the agency's board, calls on the Islamic Republic to intensify its efforts to complete the investigations within a few months. Iran has repeatedly stated that its nuclear program is aimed at peaceful energy production, but several Western countries have accused Tehran of secretly attempting to develop nuclear weapons. Hossein Mousavian, head of the Iranian delegation, stated in Vienna that Tehran will continue to cooperate with the IAEA despite the critical resolution. The United States welcomed the draft resolution and American officials once again accused Iran of trying to conceal its nuclear activities. A State Department spokesperson claimed that Iran has destroyed all suspected nuclear sites to prevent inspectors from entering them. Richard Boucher added that satellite images indicate Iran has destroyed facilities in Lavizan. Diplomats say the IAEA is awaiting the receipt of these images. Previously, the IAEA admitted to making at least one mistake in a report that accused Iran of withholding information from UN inspectors. The report mistakenly stated that Iran had not disclosed its purchase of magnets used in advanced centrifuges capable of producing uranium for bomb-making.
