Discovery of a 2300-Year-Old Treasure from the Time of Alexander the Great in Israel

Reports indicate that Israeli archaeologists have discovered a treasure belonging to the era of Alexander the Great in one of the caves in the Galilee region. The treasure, which includes silver coins, bracelets, necklaces, and silver earrings, dates back 2300 years. Archaeologists have suggested that refugees fleeing from conflict may have hidden these valuable items. According to a report on March 9 by Reuters, Eitan Klein, an official from the Israel Antiquities Authority, stated that this is the first time a treasure from the time of Alexander has been found in this country. The collection was discovered by climbers in the limestone crevices of a cave in the Galilee region. The Israel Antiquities Authority stated, 'Local residents who fled the governmental turmoil after Alexander's death may have hidden these valuable items in the cave. They likely concealed them in hope of better days.' Alexander the Great, the ruler of Greece, expanded his empire through military campaigns in the Middle East and parts of Asia. Last month, divers also found another treasure off the coast of Israel, which included two thousand gold coins from the 11th century. Archaeologists hope that by studying these coins, they can gain more information about Islamic governance in the region.
