Discovery of a 300-Year-Old Treasure by Florida Divers

300 years after the sinking of a storm-stricken Spanish ship carrying gold and silver near the shores of Florida, divers have successfully discovered the cargo of this ship, which is now worth over a million dollars. According to the National Geographic website, this treasure was discovered a month ago by Eric Smith and his family, all of whom are divers from Florida, but the news was released recently, in late July, as the Smith family wanted the announcement to coincide with the 300th anniversary of the ship's sinking. The Smith family found 52 gold coins, 40 feet of gold chain, and 110 silver coins and buttons at the wreck site. The sunken ship, named Capitana, was one of the ships in the Spanish fleet Tierra Firme that transported gold, silver, and other valuable items from the colonies to Europe. These fleet ships encountered a storm on July 30, 1715, in Florida waters and sank. The Smith family had been working as contractors with a company to discover the wreck site of this fleet for several years and were in search of this treasure. They finally managed to uncover this treasure at a depth of four and a half meters, 305 meters away from the shore of Fort Pierce, Florida. Many divers had previously searched for the remains of Capitana.
